Weekly national diesel average posts biggest gain since August 2023

The national price per gallon of diesel gasoline saw a significant increase, for the week of January 20, according to data issued today by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Rising 11.3 cents, the national average came in at $3.715, marking the largest weekly increase since the week of August 14, 2023, when it climbed 13.9 cents to $4.378 per gallon.

That gain was preceded by a 4.1-cent increase to $3.602, for the week of January 13, a 5.8-cent increase, to $3.476, for the week of January 6, a 2.7-cent increase, to 3.503, for the week of December 30, and a 1.8-cent decrease, to $3.476, for the week of December 23. Going back to the week of December 23, the national average price per gallon has seen a cumulative 23.9-cent increase, according to EIA data.

On an annual basis, the national average is off 12.3 cents, down from a 26.1-cent decline, for the week of January 13.

WTI Crude is currently trading at $75.51 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, down from $77.77 a week ago at this time.
